About Us

Veterans Reintegration Resources of Central New York is a community-based effort to strengthen the support of veterans reintegration in the region.  This effort is the result of the Voices Together Summit held at Le Moyne College in the fall of 2009 and sponsored by the Harris Beach law firm.  The summit brought together area veterans and their family members, and service providers, with the goal of identifying service needs and gaps for veterans successful reintegration in central New York.  The summit focused on Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans and their families. Conducted by the Center for Governmental Research (CGR), the summit featured an interactive process to hear first hand from veterans, families, and service providers in the region, identified service needs, and proposed solutions for mobilizing community support.

Following the summit, CGR produced a 62-page report issued by Harris Beach to the summit’s participants, and to business, community, and government leaders throughout the region.  The report, “Voices Together: A Community Conversation on Veterans’ Reintegration in the Syracuse Region,” identified five priorities for the region to accomplish veterans reintegration goals.  Those priorities include:

  1. Establish a coordinated, accessible, comprehensive network of support;
  2. Strengthen the transition and reintegration process;
  3. Heighten community awareness to avoid family members and veterans feeling isolated by the general public's lack of understanding and awareness;
  4. Build more effective outreach and engage more veterans as service providers to provide peer-to-peer support; and
  5. Engage more support for military families.
